“Nur ( light )”
Kamyar Mohsenin

May 3 - 23, 2025

Nur (light) is the debut solo exhibition by Seattle-based artist and filmmaker Kamyar Mohsenin, presented at Deixis Gallery from May 3–23, with an opening reception on May 3 from 6–9 PM. A deeply personal and multidisciplinary exploration, Nur draws on Kamyar’s Iranian-American heritage, weaving together photography, film, sculpture, painting, and light to ask: What feels like home?

The exhibition reflects on the artist’s relationship to language, family, and cultural memory—particularly the complexities of not fully belonging to one place or tongue, yet feeling a powerful sense of kinship. Named after Kamyar’s late grandfather, Nur honors familial sacrifice and intergenerational legacy, integrating archival photographs not as art objects, but as homage. Introspective and reverent, the work underscores the idea that in order to preserve a culture, we must first be willing to unravel it.
